Prior to joining Bezilla & Hall, PLLC as a member, Steve served as an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney for Fairfax County. In that role, Steve prosecuted serious felonies including murder, DUI manslaughter, traffic fatalities, drug distribution, computer solicitation, production of child pornography, distribution of child pornography, possession of child pornography, indecent liberties with a minor, malicious wounding, and gang-related crimes. Steve understands every facet of the trial process for serious criminal offenses and can analyze and identify potential issues in any criminal case. His prior experience as a major-crimes prosecutor gives him a unique insight that is very beneficial to his clients.
Experienced DUI Attorney and Instructor
Steve is well respected for his skillful handling of DUI cases in Fairfax County. As a prosecutor, Steve tried countless DUIs and was a member of the Fairfax County Blood DUI team (specializing in cases where the driver's blood was drawn and tested). Steve also teaches DUI trial preparation to police officers at the Fairfax County Criminal Justice Academy. The Office of the Fairfax County Commonwealth's Attorney entrusted Steve with teaching new prosecutors how to prepare, triage, and try DUIs cases. Steve draws on his extensive experience and expertise in DUI cases to obtain the best possible outcomes for his clients who are charged with driving under the influence.
Innovative Litigator and Effective Communicator
Steve began his legal career as a law clerk with the Alexandria Circuit Court. In Alexandria, he briefed the judges on hundreds of complex civil and criminal cases. Through this experience, he gained a wealth of knowledge about civil and criminal law and procedure. He also helped pro se litigants and attorneys resolve issues with court filings including uncontested divorce documents, show cause orders, name changes, and concealed carry permits. This required him to explain complex provisions of the Virginia Code to diverse members of the community.
